Bucktail Deceiver Trolling Fly - GREENBACK HERRING
Similar in coloration pattern to blueback herring, the Bucktail Deceiver trolling fly in color scheme "greenback herring" is designed to imitate the herring species called the threadfin herring (Opisthonema oglinum) which are nicknamed greenbacks. To imitate its coloration, the greenback herring contains multiples hues of chartruese, forest green, and black in the upper back coupled with a white underbelly. Topping features mixed combination of peacock green flashabou, custom dyed peacock green grizzly saddle feathers, and peacock herl. Tail is emerald green grizzly schlappen. Available in the following length models, 3", 4", 5", 6", 7", 8", and 10". The supersized omega 12-inch model features a hollow-tied bucktail body which allows the bucktail to spread and distributed evenly around the tube to allow for maximum volume, profile, and movement performance. The 3 through 6-inch model features 8.5 mm Flymen Fish Co eyes, 7 and 8-inch has 10 mm eyes, 10-inch model has 15 mm eyes, and 12-inch has 15-mm custom tab prismatic eyes. The 3-inch through 6-inch comes custom-rigged with a snelled Gamakatsu octopus hook via flurocarbon leader. The 7-inch model and above comes custom-rigged with a double or tandem Gamakatsu octopus hooks with a flurocarbon leader.
Greenback herring
Although there are no greenback herrings in the herring family, the threadfin herring nicknamed greenbacks by sport and commerical fishermen of the East Coast inhabits the nutrient rich water of Cape Cod south to Florida. Threadfin herring features vibrant green back and prominent spots along its ridge. Another similar baitfish that features similar coloration to the threadfin herring is the scaled sardine. This baitfish in particular contains mixed combination of green and olive in the upper back for its top coloration. Overall, both baitfish species are important for growing trophy-sized stripers, tarpon, bluefin tuna, amberjacks, bluefish, and other saltwater gamefish.
